I signed up as an iPhone developer yesterday. It asked for my ".mac" account info, plus a bit more info that I hadn't previously provided ('company name', type of app(s) I plan on developing, etc).

I expected to see a page that would ask for credit card info/etc (to get my $99 fee). But, that never happened.

It told me that I should expect an email related to my SDK signup. I haven't received one yet.

Have others had the same experience, or have you been asked to pay your $99 (and/or have you received your email response from the SDK signup)?

Just wondering if this is normal, or if something got screwed up (especially with the extra 'load' they seemed to be getting yesterday).

Everyone I've talked to is in the exact same situation. I don't think they're ready to roll out the full program yet (and it will be to select developers when they are).

The $99 fee is for joining the iPhone Developer Program. I believe it is due when setting up the certificate, which is needed to digitally sign the code. Only signed apps will run on the iPhone.

The registration we made as an iPhone developer is just to get access to the SDK download.

You actually have to indicate you wish to register as an 'official' developer not download the package to get to what everyone other than you seems to have seen. The download only requires you to register with Apple. If you really did get the follow up email then you seem lucky and have fun 'cause now (if I read things right) you can actually load you programs on your own iPhone (only) - before this you can only write the application and run it in the simulator. I suspect only key enterprise and private developers will get this before May/June as Apple don't want the 2.0 beta firmware floating out on the web (people are already posting the SDK which is against the text in the license you agree to on download). I'm not expecting anything from Apple for a few weeks.

With the non-corporate registration all you get is a message stating they will email you and a reference number. No money is currently taken
