H.264 decoding API
Hi all,
I think there is a H.264 hardware decoder inside the iPhone as it plays H.264 video quite fast and with no important CPU increase, there is also an API (MoviePlayer) to play H.264 files but I have found no way to decode this video format from a buffer instead from files. Any open API to decode H.264? Why not,? It would be so cool…
Thanks in advance.

Yes there is a hardware decoder for h.264
On the iPhone, Apple has not published any API for what you want to do. However they have published an API for this on OSX 10.6.3 maybe through a bit of digging around with otool -L you could try and find out what private frameworks the video decoder uses.
