BigBoss just posted this how to in IRC. It worked for him, but I can't personally vouch for it:

I haven't personally upgraded--I know better than that, but I've already seen a few posts from people that have.

neither of these solutions work for me,

I delete itunes (on mac) and kill ituneshelper, install 7.6 and try to restore from dfu, and still comes up with error 20.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Youd need to remove iTunes THIS way:

Even if you delete that way, it doesnt work, Mac users still get the "error (20)"

What exactly did you do? If I plug my iPhone into a Mac that has never had 7.7 it wont recognize it in DFU mode, and tells me to get 7.7 if its not in DFU
