I would believe Pwnage Tool should leave the 04.05.02 untouched if you go from your current 1.1.4 to 2.0 5a240d. It is basically the same procedure that I used to load the native 04.05.01 bb into 5a240d.
Downgrading for most should have locked the baseband not to be used on other carriers because the Pwnage Tool does not unlock this baseband. I assume you did not have problems downgrading because you have a legit iPhone AT&T account.
I see no harm you building a custom 5a240d ISPW with Pwnage and upgrading from your 1.1.4 04.05.02. It should be fast for you since there is no Terminal work needed.
If the Dev-Team does not quickly update the Pwnage Tool to unlock and jailbreak the General 2.0 release on monday, I may give it a try myself and I may even experiment unlocking 04.05.04 and upgrading it to 1.1.4 to later install my custom 5a240d.

Thank you much for the reply again.
Yes, I did not have any problems whatsoever downgrading to 1.1.4 with DFU mode. In fact, I've gone back and forth from 1.1.4 to 5a258f and then again to 1.1.4 multiple times.
I'll go ahead with the custom image of 5a240d and see how it goes. I'll keep the 04.05.02 Baseband. For the most part, I keep everything unchecked since I have a AT&T account....there is no need for BB unlock.
And I'd love to see what you come up with as far as jailbreaking the final 2.0 release. Good luck and let me know if you need a beta test dummy.

I leave developing Jailbraking and such to the "experts". I do this (bit of hacking and developing) as a hobby in my spare time and I like to learn from everybody's experience and occasionally help if I can.
So far 5a240d with 5a308's unlocked BB (04.05.04_G) is running quite well. I did it on my spare iPhone because I am traveling and my other iPhone for the moment is locked into developer mode and I don't want to touch it.
At this time it is bests you upgrade with tomorrow's release.
BTW:
From rumors I've read so far, the final OS 2.0 release may be locked down like never before. This will be a fun stand off between the hacking community and Apple to see how fast they deliver their utilities to jailbreak, activate, and unlock the BB for the 1rst Gen iPhone.
It also seems that the new device or 2nd Gen iPhone may be lockdown even further... I guess iPhones that are 1rst Gen may become more coveted in eBAY and such until the community finds new exploits.
