Creating a background iPhone application that is always running
Hi,
I've been dabbling in a little iPhone development using the official SDK but I'd like to create an application (with no GUI) that runs in the background, wakes up periodically and logs some information.
I've had a good search through the forums and it seems like it is possible to run apps in the background but I can't find a definitive guide or example on how to do this. Does anyone know if what I want to do is achievable and if so can you point me in the direction of some example or details on how to do this?
Thanks,
Jamie

You can do this on Jailbroken iPhone. Using Official SDK , its not possible unless you are using some Push Notifications, but in that case you cant launch your app using Push Notifications

Hi! I've got the same task! I need the application to be always run in background and with no gui - to hide it as much as possible! Has anyone solved it? We need to declare a cron task and to write to rc.local for the app starting after restart of IPhone. Please can you give some more information. What Xcode template do you use to prepare app to be generated to deb package.
