[Advice] getting started with iphone dev
There are several guides out there but they seem to be either old methods or referring to different things. Basically my goal is to write 2.0 apps since this will be soon be out anyway, compiling them for 1.1.4 would be nice if this is possible - but not essential. (I see the method stickied in the forum but only for SDK betas 1-3?)
Unfortunately my ibook has a PPC chip and so isnít officially supported, but I see this has been overcome using the method at: http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/03/1...-powerpc-macs/
So far I have installed Leopard, updated to 10.5.3, and Iíve installed the SDK beta7
And now looks like I will be following the method above tonight to get the rest of the iphone-SDK package installed.
But then what?
Can I compile my apps for 2.0 without signing up as a developer and paying the $99? - I know I will have to do this eventually if I want to distribute via the app store, but I am happy to use installer in the short term. Compiling for 1.1.4 would be great too.
Any direction, guides, links or hints would be great. I have a really cool idea for an app and want to build it!
Let me tell you why one of the sticky posts is still SDK beta3.
Yes, you can install SDK beta7 in your mac but can you install the latest firmware 2.0 beta in your iPhone (BigBear5A331) if you are not a registered $99 iPhone developer ?
If you are happy to build app in the iPhone Simulator, you can use beta 7 SDK.
Well I don't mind running in the simulator only for the next few weeks until the 2.0 firmware is released (and jailbroken) I just wanted to know if I could compile for 1.1.4 until thenÖ are you saying I would need to downgrade to SDK beta3 to do this?
Ok I have made a lot of progress in the last 3 weeks.
Turns out I had a quite a bit to learn, seems programming has moved on a fair bit since the qbasic days haha!
So anyway now I know all about OOP, C, Objective-C, UIKit, Cocca, the Interface Builder, Windows, Views, TableViews and have finally made a start on my project! Still a lot of learning as I go but it seems to be making a semblance of sense. I think the hardest part for self taught newbies like me isnít all the syntax and following steps from X to Y Ė itís the overall structure of how it all fits together that take some understanding especially to anyone not completely familiar with OOP.
Havenít make any attempt to compile for 1.1.4 yet since I donít really have much of a app written to run anyway (and now 2.0 is only days away) But main concern is will I be able to compile 2.0 code and upload onto phone (once 2.0 is jailbroken etc) or will I need to be fully accepted into the developer program to do this?
Eventually I would love to distribute my app to the world, but for now it will just me and a few friends playing around with it, so if I can compile it then Iím happy. Thoughts?
