    Question Advanced layouting with UIKit

    Hi All,

I'm a "new" iPhone developer and I've been having a hard time trying to figure out a way to create a more complex layout in my application. Althought I kinda found a solution, I've been wondering if there is an easier way to accomplish what I'm trying to do.

What I need to do is the following: (yeah I know it would be a lot easier to create two views, but it's not what my client wants)

The main issue of having a view like that, is that If I create those two tables as table components, each one will be scrollable independently. I don't want that, I want the content to be scrollable as a whole. Using the scroller view controll, I would have to create several subviews and manage the content size manually. This would also be tricky, since I would have to find a way to remove the scrolling from each table and make them grow all the way they need to fit its content.

The only possible solution I could find, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is to create only one scrollable table for all this content. Using the row number, I return modified content according to each row - I also need to change the delegate to give proper height for each table row according to the index. For instance, if it's row 0, I return an image. From that on, I need some math to decide either to return the two column format or the next image, and so on...

Although this seems to be a terrible approach, it's the only way I could figure out to do this kind of "layouting". Wondering, is there any other easier way to do this?

    Thanks in advance,

You can programatically create pretty much anything but i've normally found when you try to work around the APIs you run into problems - mainly on the memory side.

I think you should be trying to push the recommended guidelines detailed in the iPhone OS Programming Guide (pdf).

From the look of your image why not create two seperate ViewControllers each with their own image and columns and at the top of the page add a tab bar (where they can toggle between the two - eg: the recent call list (All / Missed) in Phone App).

I would definitely recommend you quickly go through the above pdf if you are new to the iPhone programming.

Well, I decided not ot use tables. I'm doing my layout using uiimageviews and uilabels with dynamic content and a bit of math.
