Wifi is on but not connected; the battery icon in the top tray is still full three hours after being taken off of the charger. No crashes today either.

I am having problems with the battery on my 1.1.4 pwnage phone.
I am STILL on 1.1.4 but without SSH installed - and I have turned off the wi-fi network availability pop-up though wi-fi is still on.
I have used it for about 10 minutes of web access today via wi-fi and EDGE for about 5 minutes and NOTHING ELSE - my mail is set to manual check as well and after 7 hours of standby my battery is down to 60%.
My other iPhone that has been on standby for the same 7 hours also 1.1.4 and used for about 5 minutes of calls and a few txts is still on 100%.
Any suggestions other than restoring?

Hi,
I have given up with the 2.0 and returned to 1.1.4.
I love the idea to have exchange in it (that means i could get rid out of the n95 and return to my iphone for business) but it's not worthy for me such performance.
I will need to stick to webmail exchange us before until they improve the firmware.
;(

Only Exchange 2003 SP2 and above support direct push. If your exchange environment is running pre SP2 it will drain your battery much more rapidly. In SP2 they introduced the direct push feature that basically sends a small "heartbeat" to the mobile device where pre SP2 kept a connection open. The new heartbeat method is much more similar to how Blackberry/RIM push their email to those devices.
I am running 2.0 beta 3 connecting to Exchange 2003 SP2 and it works great. Battery life hasn't dipped below 50% in a full day's usage before I put it back on the charger at night. If you have not been using Active Sync on a different device prior to using it on 2.0 iPhone that is why your battery might be dropping so quickly.

Having made no other change than stopping the SSH processes, today's battery life was much better than yesterday's.
Heavy phone and email usage, two hours of airplane mode/ipod usage, and wifi on all day (but not connected). Its 8:30p EDT, twelve+ hours after taking the phone off the charger, and the battery has a little less than 50% remaining.

Will the terminal program work on the phone?
Or is the only option to terminate the SSH client to ssh into the phone and kill the process?
once I'm on the phone what is the command ie. kill xxxxssh or something else
and would the process restart if we reboot the phone?
Thanks for the help!

1) and 2): Not sure, as I dont have the terminal app.
3) ps aux |grep ssh
will list and format any processes including the letters ssh. note each of the pids and then issue:
kill -9 pid1 pid2 pid3 (et cetera)
4) Mine did just now when I rebooted the phone.

Maybe it's not Exchange?
Do we know for sure that the battery issue is related to Exchange? Is anyone out there without Exchange experiencing poor battery performance after upgrading to 5A240d.
-
I guess exchange is the only reason to use 2.0 beta3
I am experiencing the same battery draining problems and also performance problems.
I have 5A240d installed without ssh and wifi off. My iphone seems to have two different modes (I'm not changing any settings):
Sometimes it is cool just lying there, little usage on battery.
Half an hour later it is all warm, i can almost watch the battery going down and i do not know a way to stop it. Usage tim is higher then stndby time in this mode.
Second thing is, my iphone seems to get stuck sometimes. when i turn it on and do the first check on my emails everything goes fine, i see the connecting and downloading emails text at the bottom and the spinning thing besides the edge logo.
this goes well for some time.
Without changing anything it happens sooner or later that when i go into my mail account it already says connecting but there is no progress thong spinning besides the edge logo. at that point it keeps trying to connect and wont download any mails.
Sometimes it stops after an hour or so, but most of the time i have to reboot my phone.
I think these two problems are related to each other: Iphone trying to connect without edge working and getting stuck in this mode draining the battery.
