Upgrading from iPhone 4 worth it? (going to 4S)

Is going to a 4S from a regular iPhone 4 worth it? Would cost me a couple hundred USD + my current unlocked iPhone 4, to get factory Unlocked 4S, the issue is I don't know if its really worth doing?

Here are a couple of things I know, and would like to point out and maybe get addressed by the powers that be.


NO 3G OFF, since I'm on T-mobile USA, which currently doesnt support 3G that any of the current iPhone's undertand, I usually leave 3G off, and I know this is no longer possible on a 4S - which I'm sure effects battery life.
Then there's battery life itself, seems most 4S owners complain about this.. my i4 has excellent battery life.
Siri, which seems cool, but also very gimmicky in the same sense.
Camera upgrade.. can't argue that.

After that, AFAIK they are the same phone? Am I wrong?

I believe the 4S also has the A5 dual core processor in it like the iPad2, as far as battery life goes, I have the 4S on sprint and can stream music for 8 hours a day while roaming

Yes it does have the faster A5 CPU...

Are there no additional comments to upgrades? Should I take the silence as upgrade is not worth it?

I've got an iPhone 4 and my wife's got a 4S. I have no need for Siri, and though the 4S does have the A5 processor, it's downclocked from the 1GHz that the iPad2 is running, and is clocked instead at 800Mhz. I already have the iPad2 so I've already got an iOS device running on the new processor, and I just don't use it all that much.

Since I don't need Siri and I don't feel the iPhone4 is too slow now, I didn't opt to upgrade. Especially considering it is strongly rumored that the iPhone5 will be announced either in June/July or September/October, I didn't want to re-up a 2 year contract either.

Personally I say it's not worth it. I started my iRelationship (haha) with a 4s and have been searching the net like a hawk trying to find a way to unlock it (I'm with verizon and regularly go over my 20 MB/mo limit...want Sprint). No jailbreak, no untethering... No hacking this little baby so far. But I'm also new to this forum and I have a feeling it will help me quite a bit.

However as for Siri, I never use it, other than for a little laugh every once in a while (next time you're around someone with a 4s, ask her to talk dirty to you. It's great).

As for the battery life, my battery drains fairly quickly. I have to keep the brightness on my screen almost all the way down which is kind of a pain in the arse.

But I now have a question for you; you said you'd be upgrading to an unlocked 4s. How did it become unlocked? Everything I've read has said the 4s isn't unlockable.

Personally, I'd wait for the newer iPhone 5 (or whatever they call it). However, if it's a matter of your current contract running out, and you don't want to extend it, then I'd probably upgrade. The extra speed is very handy, the camera is great (the extra features to clean up the images are a nice addition) and it makes iOS 5 work better. Siri has, unfortunately, become a victim of it's own success (which is why the new iPad didn't get it). There was SO much demand placed on the Siri servers that now it takes a significant amount of time to get a response, so I've stopped using it as a result. There have also been attempts to provide alternate Siri features that have hit the same wall, with the time delay taking 3 to 5 times as long.

The iPhone 4S is a great phone, as the record sales for it have indicated. But most people are waiting for the next iPhone, which should offer 4G (as fast as most people's Cable modems at home).

I went overboard last year, buying both a 4S (upgraded from a 4) and an iPad 2 (I almost fold each time I look at the new iPad's display), but I'm holding off on the iPad in favor of yet another upgrade (to the iPhone 5) for the 4G service. (A brief history, I started out with an iTouch, figuring I didn't need telephone service. But I found I needed 3G so I could look up carb counts at restaurants when I went out to eat (I'm a diabetic on an insulin pump). However, when I got it, ATT was the only service provider, and where I live, I have to travel 20 miles before I can make a phone call, so the iPhone 4 was useless as a phone. Thus I bought the 4S so I could actually use it, and I've been VERY happy with it).

P.S. Banksy, if you're looking to unlock your iPhone, you'd better move quickly. There are now Several unlocks for it, but Apple is moving fast to close those attempts. For a while, AT&T was doing it themselves for anyone who wanted out (I suspect they were trying to free themselves from older 'unlimited' contracts), but someone figured out how they were doing it and posted an tool to do it with.

I personally think you should wait for the iPhone 5!
I use both the 4 & 4S & there is hardly any difference!
With CYDIA I even have SIRI on the 4 :D
A4 & A5 don't make much of a difference, but yes the CAMERA in the 4S is betta than the 4!

Why not wait for the new iPhone instead? It is out in autumn and its specs would definitely make your upgrade worth it then.
