My husband has the iPhone 3 GS and is waiting to upgrade to the iPhone 4S. Is it possible to download Siri voice control for the iPhone 3 GS.
Siri voice control is only available for the iPhone 4s. You will have to upgrade to a new phone to enjoy the feature. It is really cool! For example, Siri can send text messages to family members.
Siri is able to work on the 4s because of the A5 dual-core processor. Not even the 4 can support it. They are trying to develop the technology for the 4, but it will not be anything like the 4s.
They have ported Siri to the iPhone 4, but Apple/Siri's servers validate the phone prior to sending a response, so it wouldn't be as simple as running the code on the iPhone 4 or 3GS. Beyond that, as mentioned, Siri does require a faster processor (though there is no indication that it truly requires an A5, as the predecessor to Siri runs fine on the iPhone 4), so it may never work for the 3GS.
In any case, no one has successfully ported Siri to any of the other iPhones, and considering it's one of the main selling features of the 4S, I don't believe they will have made it easy to do...
Thanks guys! I realized that it was not possible to use Siri on another iPhone. My hubby is thinking about upgrading and will probably get a new phone for Christmas.
It looks like a couple of people were able to get around the authentication issue and install Siri on an iPod Touch as well. In any case, other than the iPhone 4 maybe, there is no reason to try it get it on any other version of iPhone since the performance seems to be poor. I would be patient and wait for the next iPhone to come out. In the mean time, I've been satisfied with Vlingo. :-)

I have heard that there is an app that works like Siri. Is that what vlingo is? I've been meaning to look it up but haven't had the chance.
Vlingo is Siri without the natural speaking aspect. It's still command driven. Based on the same technology by Nuance, etc.
