Question How to free this CDMA iPhone 4S from its carrier (Verizon)?

    Hello guys.

The thing is my cousin went to live to Australia for 5 years due to his company and gave me his white iPhone 4S (CDMA) which is with Verizon. I just need to unlock it from its carrier so I can use it with any other carrier. I assume that's possible.

    This is its info:

    Version: 4.2.8 (8E401)
    Model: MC677LL
    Modem Firmware: 1.0.06

I hope with that you can help me.

    Best regards.

There is no known way at present to use a CDMA iPhone on a GSM network. Even the SIM interposers do not currently work for this. Unfortunately there is no known way to unlock your device at present.

I don't want it to work on a GSM network, I just need it to work, for example, from Verizon (its carrier) to Sprint.

Is there any way to do that? I hope yes.

    Best regards.

No, not yet. The only unlock method existing for the 4S is for GSM networks and uses a device similar to the Gevey SIM in order to work. It only unlocks GSM phones on GSM networks. There is no known method for unlocking the CDMA model yet.

so would unlocking the CDMA Verizon or Sprint iPhone 4S ever be possible? I mean to unlock it to use on AT&T or T-Mobile etc.

It is actually possible. I recently Unlocked my Verizon Iphone 4s for Tmobile. Everything works and it has free edge internet if you do not have a data plan.

At present, it's possible to unlock CDMA devices to work on GSM, but I do not believe it's possible to do the reverse -- an AT&T 4S cannot work on the Verizon network -- Verizon would have to add the MEID to their database and the times I've attempted, they're not willing to do so. Glad to hear that you can take a CDMA phone now and put it onto the GSM network though -- that's a good advance. I'd prefer it be software based and not a SIM interposer, as those are generally unreliable, but it's a good step nevertheless.
