Any issues with Siri understanding you?
I'm just curious if anyone has had any issues with Siri? I know some of my friends have heavy accents and am wondering if this will be an issue.

There are some videos online of people with thick accents having difficulty, but in all the tests I've seen, it's been pretty forgiving....

I don't own an iphone 4s but I played around with it at the apple store quite a bit the other day. Even though I haven't really used it, it is better than anything that I ever used. With all the noise from people clamoring to get their iphone 4s, it picked up my questions and comments accurately. I cannot say the same for dragon dictation or Vlingo on the iPhone or Dragon on my PC at work even though the area I work at is very quiet.

Yes, Siri can have problems with picking up certain voices. My friends and I were playing around with it. It was really funny listening to it repeating us.

The Siri feature is very fun. You have to be clear when pronouncing your words. Nick, I'm going to have the out the videos of other people using Siri.

I think it would be odd to expect Siri to understand people with thick accents. It just doesn't seem like they could make it pick up both standard accents and something more unusual. The technology has to lock onto something, it has a certain definition of what each word sounds like. Maybe I'm not getting something, but that's how I was thinking about it.

Siri has been inconsistent for me. The system was down a few days ago so it wasn't working at all but recently it has been so so in trying to figure out what I am saying. What sucks for me now is when I say "Open the pod bay doors, Siri" Her reply is "sigh"
That hurts.

It is the same for me as well. Siri is also a bit slow for me. I think it is great and more accurate than the other voice recognition apps I've used but I wish it was a little more responsive. Of course, Apple is calling it a beta so I am giving it the benefit of the doubt.

I think the outage OpenDoc mentioned is a significant problem, nobody wants a feature like Siri to suddenly stop working. Hopefully they'll be able to avoid long outages going forward. As for the issues with voice recognition, that definitely can be irritating. However I agree that since this is a beta version, we really shouldn't expect perfection yet.

I would love to hear some of the stories about what Siri mistakenly thought she heard from someone with a heavy accent! I'll bet there are some good ones!
