Default AT&T SIM on non-iPhone plan?

I currently use my work sim card on a jailbroken, unlocked 3GS running iOS4.

I'm thinking about upgrading to iPhone 4, but can't seem to find a definitive answer to this question:

If I cut down my current SIM card (work plan thru AT&T, NOT the official iPhone plan) and put it in the new iPhone, will the phone activate?

Yes, I know that cut down SIM cards can work. My question is simply whether an AT&T SIM that is NOT on a current iPhone plan will allow the phone to be activated.

Or do I need to wait until a Jailbreak is released that allows for Hacktivation?

Would really appreciate an answer to this before I start hacking up my current SIM card.

Well you can activate it with an att sim card. I'm currently using my iPhone 4 with H20 over here in NJ and it works 100%. Att just BS a lot and tell you things so you get a contract with them.

You should be able to because like I mention above my iPhone 4 isn't unlocked nor jailbroken and I'm using h20. The sim that comes with the iPhone 4 can be used to activate the phone no service needed to activate then swap put the prepaid one in there but you cut the sim card. If any other questions plz let me know I'm here to help.

MUCH appreciated. Will be giving that a try tonight and will report back. But that's giving me some confidence that I'm not just making a colossal mistake.

It's won't be a mistake trust me and every feature will work via wifi even FaceTime. I was doubting it too until I went to a store and bought a h20 sim. The unlock will be out soon anyway so it's good to get the iPhone 4 now cuz it will have old software and dev team can find massive loop holes. But keep me posted and good luck

    Welps, I done did it.

Plugged the iPhone into iTunes with the blank sim that it came with, and was able to activate the phone.

Circumsized my current AT&T sim card down to Microsim size. Popped it in and got a signal within minutes. However, it kept saying that it could not activate the cellular data network.

Then I went to UnlockIt, installed the AT&T APN listed there, and voila! Everything works great!

Have used it for 36 hours now and the only issue I've seen is that occasionally I'm getting a "Could Not Connect to iTunes" when I load up the App store, but I'm not sure whether that's an actual App store problem or an issue with the phone. The internet is still working fine when that happens, so not sure.

But other than that, everything is working flawlessly. Couldn't be happier and it was much simpler than I was thinking it would be in my own head.

Thanks a ton for the advice and confidence. Really appreciate the help!

I'm happy for you dude. I told you I was 100% right that it would work. I have one question for tho. Could you use the internet services on it without wifi?
