I just got an iPhone 4, just took it out of the box and the brightness doesn't look good, it looks too dark. I took a pic in comparision with the 3GS. It's the exact same settings in brightness as you can see, why is it so dark?

This phone also has a little chip on the side of it. Is this phone defected?

What you are seeing is mostly differences in the default colour temperature of the display. This has changed as Apple has chosen different LCD units for different iPhone models.

For an accurate comparison, compare with another iPhone 4

You should maybe compare it with other iPhone 4's before jumping to conclusions. Also, how did it get the chip on the side?
