iPhone 4 HELP!
So, my iPhone 4 is dead! I've tried to restore, reboot and reset. Nothing helps. I have also tried to restore it in DFU mode.
Here's the thing, the phone is super slow on the slide to unlock screen and where ever I need to type anything (e.g. Messages, Phone, search screen and the works)
I'm not sure when this problem started. Not sure if it was when I updated to IOS 5. :( There are times when I restore/reboot/reset it magically works again, but then I don't get any sound when I use the headset. So I tried to r/r/r it again and now magic doesn't work on it anymore. :(
I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue now? I'm still hoping it's not. :(
Is anyone else having the same issue? Is there anything I can do about this or is my iPhone really dead??
Any help would be most appreciated.
PS. I have scoured the net/forums all over for a solution. I still have nothing. I now want to cry. :(
My iPhone is a paper weight. Please help I'm desperate.
Is the phone jailbroken? Have you previously upgraded while blocking the baseband? What baseband is the iPhone 4 currently on? If you previously jailbroke, did you ever install any keyboard enhancements?
Beyond that, if you take the phone and restore it to a complete factory 5.0.1 (blocking the baseband if you want to unlock), BEFORE you restore your backup to it, does the device exhibit this behavior? If it does, it's likely hardware related and should be looked at.
Last but not least, there are logs on the phone that you can review if you have the Enterprise iPhone Configuration app, it will let you review the syslog, and if it's a failure in the device causing the slowdown, there should be entries that indicate why in that log file. If you review and can't figure it out, post the log file to a site like pastebin and link it here, we'll review.
First of all let me say thank you so much for knowing what to do. I'm so happy that people actually know what to do. ;)
To answer your questions..
1. The phone is currently not jailbroken.
2. I'm not sure if the baseband of the phone was blocked/upgraded. ( I have no idea how to do that and what it's for)
3. The current baseband on the phone is 04.11.08
4. I think I did install a keyboard enhancement before. (Not 100% sure though)
I have restored the phone as a "New Phone" and do not use my backup files at the moment.. The phone is still slow even after a complete restore. :(
Lastly, Enterprise iPhone Configuration app: Not sure what this app is. It sounds interesting though and would give it a shot if you let me know where to get it. :) Searching the app store through my phone won't work though. (Is this the same as the Diagnostics & Usage page on the phone?)
Thanks a heap.
Check here, and download the iPhone Configuration Utility.

That said, if your phone is exhibiting this behavior on a clean restore of 5.0.1, it likely is a hardware problem, but these logs should help indicate what precisely the issue is.
Again, thank you. I'll download this app to check what's wrong with the phone. None the less I would rather chuck the phone out or sell it to someone more knowledgeable in fixing an iPhone. My husbands iPhone got wrecked when we decided to open it up (fixed the initial problem.. the home button, but something else broke.. the wifi) :(
iPhones are dreadful when opened.
Thanks again, at least now I'm certain it's a hardware issue..
Cheers to you and this awesome site!
