YourTube 2 is able to download video's and add them to iPod - all on the iphone it self. COOL..
Is there ANYWAY to do that with music an the iPod on iPhone ?
I really miss Dtunes .............
(ie: I want to download a song on the phone, save it on the phone, and then somehow add it to the playlist of the ipod - without syncing to itunes...)

While I don't know of an app that does this *yet*, there has been some definite progress in this for the iPhone4 in the recent past. On September 3rd, CocoaNuts updated gremlin to 0.0.9, which is the back-end support for importing video and audio into your iTunes library. This is (as you're likely aware) what provides the ability for YourTube / YourTube HD to function. Now that this has been updated for iOS 4.0 and the Media Library from iOS 4.0, it stands to reason that people will use this as the back-end for other applications which do similar things (like dTunes).
There also used to be several apps similar to dTunes that would allow you to download .MP3 files directly on the device and import them into your library, but at present, I'm not finding any of them that have been updated to support iOS 4.0.
Unfortunately, I think the answer is that an app like what you're looking for does not yet exist (but I'd look for one to be released in the near future that does). A lot of people are trying to get dTunes to work on iOS 4.0, but presently, due to the fact that Safari DL Plugin doesn't work, it's at kind of an impasse. Once the Safari DL Plugin is updated and functions properly, the rest should fall into place.
Sorry it's not the answer you were hoping for, and hopefully someone out there will know of something that I didn't that may work for your purpose...
Native download right to the iDevice will be awesome when it is made available for the iPhone 4. In the mean time, you can use several services on the web that will snatch the mp3 from a youtube video. You then save it and sync your iPhone to iTunes.

I tried it with a couple YouTube videos and it seems to work well.
The safari plug in for Dtunes is kind of useless at this point, as I have Safari Download Manager which allows me to download items straight to a directory on my phone, works great.. That and iFile give me a kind of dtunes function, where using a web search (like dtunes) finds the mp3, safari download manager download its, and using ifile I can play it.
But obviously there is no playlist, continuous play, etc... so what I (we) need is the media player part of dtunes.. Dtunes immediately crashed on ios4 for me when trying to play songs.
I remember mewseek use to be able to add songs directly to the itunes/ipod library. which is a mute point anyway----but...........not sure why I even brought that up? LOL.
Other good news is that if you already have iFile (well worth the price), one of the requested features that the author is working on is:Quote:

Hopefully we'll see that feature added soon, as iFile is already intelligent enough to see that SDM is installed and allows you to quickly view downloaded files.
Good news! I've been searching for this a long time too. Today MewSeek 2.5 was released, with support for iOS4 and retina display.
