    Default iPhone4 region format issues

Okay,, this problem is killing me now.

I have updated to 4.0.1, and my iphone doesn't recognize numbers anymore
ie. I have SAM with the number +96655345XXXX, so if I dial 055345XXXX
the phone doesn't recognize that he is saved under the +966.....

I have tried all regions, originaly USA, tried Saudi Arabia, UAE, Canada, UK and much more with no luck..
if I switch between regions and I go to my dialed list, it does recognize the number. so i test again and dial 055345XXXX and nothing!

in 4.0, i had the same problem but i switched from USA to Saudi Arabia then back to USA and it worked.

    you guys have any idea?
P.S maybe I am having this problem now because am not in Saudi Arabia now?! i am currently in UK

    thanks

That is the only thing Apple is still to fix in the internationalization of the iPhone.
For some stupid reason they have place number formatting under control of the OS locale settings (what is called in iOS4 "Region Format").

Region format handles more than telephone number formatting, and includes things like names for days and months, decimal separator, currency symbol, etc. The problem is when the Region format does not match the Interface language. This happens typically when one travels or when one uses sets the UI language to one that is not of the current country (like having the UI in English while in France).

For a definitive solution, Apple needs to fix this to use the current carrier country code instead of the locale.

Temporary solution: use package Net Local Number Formatting from Cydia. Works on iOS4, but for the iPhone 4 you will have to wait.
