Hey guys...been searching everywhere and I can't find a clear answer.

Can you unlock the iPhone 4 yet? I know the iOS 4 software can be unlocked, but all the guides only refer to the 3G and 3GS.

If not, when will the unlock be available?

Unofficial unlock requires the iPhone to be jailbroken first.

There is no jailbreak for iPhone 4 yet. It looks like that a jailbreak will be possible as the bootrom is the same as the iPad.

The baseband CPU (and the OS it runs on) is new to the iPhone 4 so an unlock will take quite some time (if it is even possible). This is a very different situation to the 3GS which shared the same baseband CPU and OS as the 3G (also shared with the iPad). In addition the way the baseband OS is updated has changed and become even more restricted.

In summary. No unlock yet. Jailbreak probably within the next few days (worst case September/October) - unlock could take 6 months or more to arrive (if it is even possible)

If you want an unlock earlier, buy a non-subsidised iPhone from one of the many countries offering offically unlocked iPhones. (Canada for example)

When the jailbreak and unlock are released you will hear about it pretty quickly. Thread closed.

Please put this question to rest. I know someone who thinks it can be unlocked because since iOS 4 is jailbroken and unlocked using baseband 5.13.04, they think that iPhone 4 is unlocked/jailbroken now. I don't think so.

I know that the jailbreak for os4 is out but its limited.

the iphone 4 is still not jailbreakable, nor is the 3GS with the newer bootroms,
only phones jailbreakable are older iphones/ipods that have the 4.0 software on it

Expect the iPhone 4 jailbreak sometime between next week and late September. The two of the key hackers who can make this happen have not even got their hands on an iPhone 4 yet.

There are very few exploits remaining that have not been revealed to Apple. One of the key exploits required to jailbreak iOS 4.0 on newer devices (iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 3rd gen, 3GS) can be easily patched by Apple with an iOS update. Strategy requires that the timing of the release of the exploit be at a time when Apple can't easily or quickly patch the hole.

Unlock on the iPhone 4 will take even longer (if it is even possible). Expect this to be more like the iPhone 3G (which took 6 months for the first unofficial software unlock to be released - yellowsn0w) than the 3GS (which was unlocked pretty much straight after it was released)

You will know when the jailbreak is released, it will be big news. Please stop asking. Thread closed.
