Iphone 4 ios 5 restore error 11 and spinning circle on boot
I have an iphone 4 that is on ios 5.0
It was restored to custom 5.0 (made in redsn0w) from 4.2.1 preserving the baseband.
I was trying to get facetime working and edited the N90AP.plist.
Upon tethered reboot the phone appeared in itunes but was stuck on a spinning circle.
I would really like to try and get it out of this mode if possible.
but anyways...
Trying to restore to the exact same custom firmware file while running tinyumbrella I now get an error 11 in itunes.
I have read that it's a problem with itunes knowing that the baseband update isn't present.
How can I get around this if I can't get the spinning circle fixed?
I have a Mac and a Windows comp available to use.
Any help is much appreciated!

I think the biggest problem now will be that Apple is not signing iOS 5.0.0 anymore as they have released 5.0.1 -- and since SHSH can't be used to restore iOS 5.x without Apple's signature, you could be encountering a strange variant of that problem. Have you tried making a 5.0.1 IPSW and blocking the baseband update the same way?

i have the same problem on an iphone 4 with an unlockable baseband of 1.59, i tried to do a full factory reset and got stuck to the boot logo with the spinning circle i tried restoring on a mac using tinyumbrella and got the error 11, using a windows machine i am getting an error 10... is there anyway to upgrade to 5.0.1 still preserving the baseband, or a way around any of the itunes error

You can attempt to make a custom 5.0.1 firmware that doesn't have the baseband by using redsn0w, then restore that in DFU. There are some posts I'm seeing about how the hack to bypass the baseband upgrade using TinyUmbrella no longer works, and that you will need to use redsn0w to make a no_bb .IPSW to restore. Have you attempted that?

I have followed the instructions published on redmondpie.com and it always worked. This time, the pwned DFU mode with customized ispw does not work for me with tinyumbrella even though I already saved the shsh blob in cydia (error 11). Apple does sign the firmware with the baseband removed version. I believe that tinyumbrella and shsh blob no longer works in iOS 5.0.1 and above (I missed iOS 5.0, so I don't know if iOS 5.0 works or not). This may indicate that later when Apple refuses to sign iOS 5.0.1, we will no longer be able to downgrade/restore to iOS 5.0.1.
Please advise if I am wrong on this.

Correct. SHSH are not functional for iOS 5.0.0 or 5.0.1 yet because of the APticket being generated on boot and not based on the UUID. This means that at present, SHSH for 5.0.0 and 5.0.1 cannot be used to personalize .IPSW and install yet, which means that dreamcarrior is correct that they cannot presently be used to downgrade once Apple stops signing. There are a few things in the works for this, but as of yet no 100% secure and stable method to restore using these SHSH files. A lot of people are having problems now because they still have gs.apple.com in their hosts file pointing to Saurik's server, and this will cause restores to fail based on a bad APticket. Check your hosts file to make sure that there's nothing in there for it.

Also, reminder, restoring Custom Firmware requires you to be in Pwned DFU mode -- not just recovery/restore/DFU.

While we where trying to get our iOS 5.1.1 SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella, iTunes showed a message that for some reason we cannot restore iOS 5.1.1 using TinyUmbrella. It is important to mention that we already saved iOS 5.1.1 SHSH Blobs in TinyUmbrella previously.
