I just purchased an off-contract iPhone 4 with the intent of using my iPad sim for a data-only device. I did web searches that explained that the APN must be changed to "broadband" and the all should be well. I followed the instructions and it did not work. I am wondering if 4.2.1 is the problem. maybe it worked on previous versions.

I haven't jailbroken and really don't have the need, but I would do so it if would allow me to use my iPad sim.

Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can achieve this one thing?

Assume you have applied a commcenter patch from wortel? You can't make APN changes stick without this
