I remember reading (I think on MuscleNerd's twitter) that with the latest Ultrasn0w - and iPhone 4 BB 01.59.00 - it would be possible to do a seczone dump and brute force the factory unlock code for a certain device?

Is that still a possibility? or did I misunderstand?

I remember reading the same thing -- also saw a post (though may not have been dev-team) that mentioned that the victory that was just won that legalizes jailbreaking and unlocking in the USA meant that a brute-force unlock code cracker would no longer be considered illegal or a circumvention, and as such there would probably be one released in the near future.

Anyone else have some more info on this? Did we both mis-read?

won't work. There is a /possibility/ of bruteforcing the NCK but doing so requires a bb exploit to get one of the pieces needed.

I think notcom/semaphore actually means baseband bootloader exploit (as they already have a bb exploit for 4.0.x baseband)
