Default Does iOS4 / iPhone4 continually log Accelerometer data?

My iPhone just took a 3 inch drop from my hand to my mouse pad (while in a bumper, mind you) and the screen cracked. It's not a large crack, it's a microfracture, but it's there.

I'd like to know if the iPhone is recording accelerometer data while it is running as a kind of background log, so that I can pull the information and find out just how much of a G shock that the device took falling from 3 inches.

My rationale for believing that such a thing exists is that I don't put it past Apple to do something like this so that if someone sends their phone with a broken screen in and is lying about having dropped it, they can point to that data and say they have proof. That doesn't mean it does, just that I can find a way to convince myself it does.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

EDIT: Yes, before anyone mentions it, this did happen to me once before, but last time it was a 2 foot drop, and I managed to convince Apple to replace it for free under warranty. I don't expect that's going to happen a second time. Secondarily, no, I'm not exaggerating even a little bit about the distance of the drop. It truly was 3 inches out of my hand and onto its corner, in the bumper, on my mouse pad. Poof, microfracture at the bottom right of the phone near the home button all the way to the edge. Needless to say I immediately ditched the bumper and went back to my rubber case.

Answered my own question. Yes, the Genius Bar does have a device that they can plug into the phone and retrieve up to the last 60 or 90 days of accelerometer data in order to justify warranty claims. I've got an appointment tomorrow to have this done. The results of that will dictate whether they replace the phone on the spot or not. Thankfully, I made the purchase on an AmEx, and AmEx has already told me that if Apple won't make this right, AmEx will refund the purchase price and allow me to return the phone.

I don't want to return the phone though, so I hope that doesn't happen.

    Good luck buddy.
Hopefully they will take care of it for you. If they decide to give you a replacement, run home and save your SHSH :-)

So they swapped it out on the spot for a new-in-box -- or so I thought, but when I got home, I pulled my 4.0.1 SHSH and got that on file with Cydia, and for giggles, tried to pull a 4.0 SHSH --- and to my surprise, it had one on file with Cydia.

It has me quite perplexed. I know they're not signing 4.0 anymore, this much is extremely clear -- but I'd be surprised if a phone had been out in the world and then returned already, refurbished, and resold?

Doesn't really matter, got my phone replaced, problem solved, glad to have a 4.0 SHSH but still quite curious how it was possible.

Also, I used SBSettings to hide all my jailbreak apps (Cydia/MobileFinder/ScummVM/PSX4all/Snes4iphone) and they didn't figure out that the device was jailbroken. Phew.

Possibly it was a return within 30 days - I think Apple will have had a lot of these after the antenna problems got so much news coverage.

The SHSH thing makes me think it was someone who bought it hoping for an unlock but gave up waiting.
