Default cannot downgrade iphone 4 to 4.0.1 despite shsh on saurik's server

    Hi guys,
I am using latest itunes 10 on my mac to downgrade my iphone 4 to 4.0.1 but i get the error: iphone 4 this device isn't eligible for the requested build . This happens despite the shsh blobs saved on saurik's server and changing the hosts file to point gs.apple.com to saurik's server. I have also pinged gs.apple.com to make sure that it is indeed pointing to saurik's server (74.208.10.249).

What can possibly be wrong ? I did an erase all contents and settings on my unlocked and jailbroken iphone 4 and then tried the downgrade process. Please help, I basically am selling this unlocked and jailbroken on ebay and it was running 4.0.1 all the while. It is now without an OS and I really want to go back to 4.0.1 to do a jailbreak and unlock.

    Thanks!

    Publish your restore log.
Also, use TinyUmbrella to double check the saved SHSH blobs are actually saved on Cydia and are for the correct device (for example if you had the iPhone repaired under warranty by Apple, they actually give you a different iPhone rather than repair your phone. Any saved SHSH for the original iPhone can't be transferred to the replacement)

TinyUmbrella apparently does not work when you do not have a working OS on the iphone AFAIK. I tried using TinyUmbrella and there is nothing filled in fields like ECID or SERIAL ID. Am i wrong?

Can you let me know where the restore logs are saved ?

    Thanks !

You can enter a manual device in TinyUmbrella - you just need to manually identify your ECID via System Profiler

Thanks a lot. It seems cydia only has shsh going back to 4.0.2 .

Now this question is off topic but will 4.0.2 be jailbroken from JailbreakMe . I jailbroke like 10 months back from that website but as far as i understand, apple fixed the pdf exploit sometime back.

I know there are more new methods, but the old one was just super cool.

Jailbreakme only works up to 4.0.1

The only way to jailbreak 4.0.2 on an iPhone 4 is via Limera1n - I'm not a fan of limera1n at all (but it will work in this specific case)

Even further offtopic: Apple only partly fixed the star kernel exploit that jailbreakme used in 4.0.2 - they fixed it enough to break the current version of jailbreakme but the remainder of the vulnerability was not fixed until iOS 4.3.1
The intention was to recycle the same exploit (combined with the limera1n bootrom exploit) for an untethered jailbreak of 4.3 and 4.3.1 - but now Apple has patched it - another option might need to be found.
