I was about to buy a locked iphone4 from USA or canada, when my friend told me that apple has changed the cancellation fees or policy ..and that you will have to pay the phone price in full if u have cancelled your contract with AT&T...
That's why i'm thinking to buy a factory unlocked iphone....

please tell me what are the tricks to buy a cheap iphone 4 without paying the full phone price and it will still be locked which is stupid...
anyone had such expereince, please share...

You haven't been clear as to exactly what are you after? My best guess is that you want to use an AT&T iPhone - unoffically unlocked with ultrasn0w outside of the USA?

One very important point to note: currently shipping iPhone 4 models ship with iOS 4.1 - the baseband of which cannot be unlocked by ultrasn0w.

There has been a clear message from the developers of ultrasn0w that they will soon provide an unlock for iOS 4.1 on the 3G and 3GS. They have said nothing about the iPhone 4 (which uses a different baseband chip to the 3G and 3GS)

So.. you take a HUGE risk buying a carrier locked iPhone 4 if you want to use ultrasn0w with it. There may never be an update for ultrasn0w that supports the 4.1 baseband (or it might come a little later than the unlock for 3G and 3GS - like the 4.0 unlock did). We simply don't know yet.

AT&T have doubled the early termination fee for their smartphones. It is now $350 minus $10 for every month you have been on the contract.

So.

Activation fee $36
One Month's service $65
Early Termination Fee $340
iPhone 4 32GB model $299

Plus taxes - works out at least $750

It is definitely a better idea to buy a "commitment free" iPhone directly from Apple Canada or Italy or Hong Kong etc.
