Default How do I know my iPhone 4 is activated?

Is there a way to check the iPhone whether it is activated? Or is the status of being "activated" actually the ability to normally browse and navigate the iphone system, be able to use aplications and stuff? I got my iPhone form the US and its locked to AT&T, I have no micro-sim yet. So after unpacking I connected to iTunes and went through the activation process without any sim being installed in the iPhone. Does this mean my iPhone is now active? Or do I have to do the Phonebook simcard thing?

Thank you very much for your help

Activated means that your iphone get past the "slide for emergency" screen.
If the device is not activated, you can only dial emergency and nothing else.

Once activated, you will have access to all features of the phone such as camera, regular call, video, music ....

Thank you for your help. Alright than, I am past that screen. But I still don't understand, why do people make such a hustle with the phonebook simcards then. If only what I did was to connect to iTunes without any simcard inserted and it went through the activation process like a charm.

Anyways, thanks for the positive answer, another rock off my chest. Will wait for the unlock.

iphone is required to be activated with an authorized provider sim card via itunes.
For example, when you buy an iphone from AT&T, you plug the phone to computer and run itunes; it will ask for all kind of information and then activate the phone.

Many people get an iphone without a sim card, or do not have information to activate the phone and therefore the phonebook sim card is important.

You can use the phonebook simcard to activate any iphone

Not sure how you can activate the phone without a sim card in there unless it was already activated by method described above

I have bought from ebay an iphone 4 32g, it was AT&T and I have original SIMCARD, when I connect the device to itunes asks for a SSN and ZIPCODE, when I insert the phonebook sim card, itunes says that is not supported simcard.
    Any help would be appreciated!
