Exclamation Where is the IMEI Stored? (Physically)

Hi there, I want to know on what part of the board the IMEI is stored? As in what chip contains the IMEI information.

Also, is this the same part for both the 3G and 3GS?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for the reply although I was hoping for a physical description or diagram pointing to it on the motherboard? Thanks

For the 3G Look at http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/Z...nBeNLSxC.large

    It's the chip labelled

    NUMONYX
    PF38F3050MOY0CE

On a 3GS, it's a different chip from the same vendor in roughly the same place

    http://www.phonewreck.com/wp-content...icboardPCB.jpg

    NUMONYX
    k5d1257ACC

This chip performs multiple functions - it's not just for the baseband.

On the iPhone 4, there is no more NOR chip, everything is on the NAND. Including the IMEI, serial number etc. These are stored in special partitions on the NAND.

Thanks so much! Are these chips interchangeable between 3G and 3GS models? For example could you use the chip from a 3G to fix a broken baseband on a 3GS?

    Thanks again!

I doubt they are interchangable, that information is beyond my knowledge.

You would be better off removing the chip and trying to reflash/reprogram the baseband bootloader rather than trying to swap it for a different model chip.
