upgrading a 3.0.1 JB 3GS to 3.1.2 ???

ok i have a JB 3.0.1 with ultrasn0w i want to upgrade to 3.1.2 is it possible or do i have to wait for a unlock solution? Im on T-Mobile USA. im no noob but still very carefull about everything i do. dont want a usless paperweight till the next Unlock comes out!!!!! any one please help.. Im running a PC with XP on it...

there is no Unlock out yet just jb with 3.1.2

what i mean is is there a CFW 3.1.2 that was pwnd with the new 3.1.3 PWNAGE tool that i can use to upgrade to the firmware.. Sorry i wasnt clear about that. and if i use this CFW will i loose my unlock with ultrasn0w?? i see that ultrasn0w fourm says that it works with the 3.1.2 CFW?? or is that wrong ?!!!?!?!?!?!

There is no 3.1.2 custom firmware so the highest firmware you can jailbreak up to and maintain the unlock is 3.1.1. Also as long as your baseband does not go higher then 04.26.08 ultrasn0w will be able to unlock it.

FinalSlash seems to have cleared everything up, but just to make sure:

Pwnage tool does not currently pwn 3.1.2 firmwares -- meaning that you cannot make a custom firmware package for 3.1.2 that does not include the baseband update.

At present, Pwnagetool will pwn 3.1 and create a custom firmware, so you can use Pwnagetool on a Mac to create the custom firmware, then flash your phone to 3.1 -- problem is that since 3.1.2 is the current firmware, you'll need to use Saurik's sig signing server and you'll need your SHSH on file with his server as well -- or else you won't be able to restore to 3.1, as I believe Apple has stopped signing the 3.1 update and is only signing the 3.1.2.

That said, if you make the custom 3.1 with pwnagetool and remove the baseband, then upgrade to 3.1, it should leave your 04.26.08 baseband intact -- meaning ultrasn0w will still work on the phone.

You'll want to get the carrier pack for your carrier as the 3.1 baseband doesn't report carrier information the same way as the earlier ones and one of the first things you'll notice is that because of this, your carrier icon is blank!
