    Default Unlocking/Srpingboard Problem

Ok. I bought a iPhone 3GS recently, and it was originally with Rogers. It does not have a SIM card with it. When I try and turn it on, it says that I do not have a SIM card installed, and it will not launch into the springboard. I have a Bell SIM card, which is what I intend to use with the phone. When that one is inserted, it says that it is not compatible, which I assume because it is not unlocked. I believe that it updated when I connected to my computer, but I am unsure what version it is at. Is there anyway to bypass the SIM check in order to access the springboard and then run Cydia, or do I have to go to Rogers and say, get a SIM card with say, a Pay As You Go plan, just to bypass the SIM check, and then unlock it.

If you let it update (which was a very stupid thing to do) then you might not be able to jailbreak. The smartest thing to do would have been to try and get a SHSH for 3.1.2 (now it is too late for that)

Force it into recovery mode and then connect via iRecovery to the iPhone with iRecovery -s

    it will say BUILD_TAG: iBoot-XXX.xx

if the iBoot version is: iBoot-636.66.33 you most likely can't jailbreak or unlock for now.
Otherwise try iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.1.2 Using RedSn0w (Windows) to jailbreak and iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G, 3GS Using BlackSn0w to unlock.

You should also see a value ECID:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX grab the unique ECID value (the XXXX number) and use The Firmware Umbrella to check if you can get a SHSH for 3.1.2 or lower from Cydia from that phone.

Did you install libusb first? You may need a different/newer version of libusb than the one I linked to.
