    Default unlock 3gs 4.3.5 | 05.16.02 BB

I need help with unlocking my 3gs 4.3.5 - 05.16.02 BB, jailbroken with cydia already.
I am new to all iPhone jalibraking/unlocking stuff, but I have made quite a research.
As far as I know the only method (as of 06.09.2011) is to:
    1. downgrade somewhere to 4.1 or 4.2.1 (using redsn0w)
    2. change baseband to iPad's - 6.15.00 (maybe loose GPS - no one knows for sure)
    3. jailbreak with redsn0w + install cydia
    4. unlock with ultrasn0w

Please someone experienced confirm if this procedure is best I can do.
I have read that it is good to make a backup of your SHSH blob files.
I have done that with Tinyumbrella, and it made SHSH copies for 4.1 and 4.3.5 (which is now installed on iPhone).
So, is it better to downgrade to 4.1 or 4.2.1 (I don't have SHSH for this one)?
Will I find any problems downgrading?
Is there anything else I should make a backup copy (I don't mean pictures, etc.)?

Will greatly appreciate help with all this! Hopefully community can find this procedure helpful.

  2. Thanks devons thanked for this post.

after additional research I think I will try to:
    1. downgrade to 4.3.3 without SHSH (fresh stuff - 5 days old)

    2. unlock 4.3.3

I just hope I am not doing something stupid...

I don't trust the "downgrade without SHSH" technique to actually work as advertised. Although I can see how it might *nearly* work.

Well, it looks you are right. It didn't work. To me every method is equally safe/unsafe since I am new to all JB stuff.
As I said it didn't work. Fortunately I have old shsh files. I try to restore using iTunes to 4.3.3 but it went to error 1600. Then I tried to restore to 4.1 but got error 1015.
Then I found I should build custom ipsw - did that with 4.3.3 but it goes to recovery mode (black screen) :-( Pwnage doesn't want to accept 4.1 ipsw to build a custom one. Now the iPhone is totally black, and I can only put it to screen with "Greenp0ison Initialized" by "fix recovery" option in Tinyumbrella. Please help! I'm stuck.

OK. I found that Twnagetool is dedicated to version of firmware. I downloaded Pwnagetool for version 4.1 (I have SHSH for this version). Running Tinyumbrella TSS server I managed to restore to 4.1 with iTunes! Hurray!
Now only the baseband change and unlocking...

Hello, Hrehor! Were you able to change the baseband and unlock your phone? I'm in the exact same situation (same jailbroken 3GS on 4.3.5 with BB 05.16.02). Would love to know if you were able to unlock in the end... Thanks!

Your only option is the 6.15 baseband from the iPad

Note that this comes with it's own side effects and cannot be reversed.

You don't need pwnagetool to load the iPad baseband, just a version of redsn0w 0.9.6 between 0.9.6b5 and 0.9.6b16 - need to use a 4.3.1 IPSW also.
