The file is called MobileDevice and is located at /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/MobileDevice

bspatch is built into OS X

syntax is pretty much the same
    Code:
    bspatch MobileDevice MobileDevice.new MobileDevice_mac.patch
Hi, Im using os x and read the previous notes though I'm confused as to what to do... I downloaded the (.dll_902._win.patch and the mobiledevice_mac.patch file) from the twitter link.. I also found MobileDevice under private frameworks as you suggested... now what do I do from here? I made a backup copy of mobile device.. then copied the 2 dloaded files from twitter and added them to the folder "A" where original mobile device is.. and then I tried running the terminal after copying and pasting the code you gave above... [bspatch MobileDevice MobileDevice.new MobileDevice_mac.patch] but i get this on the terminal "bspatch: MobileDevice_mac.patch: No such file or directory" ... I'm clearly missing something or not understanding what to do... sorry and thanks in advance- sadly i'm not too savvy at this...

    ---

Also- just to clarify... my iphone 3g is stuck at the apple logo and after trying to restore in DFU I get the erroe 23.. etc.. In doing what is suggested in this thread will I be able to do a full factory restore afterwards and have the phone functioning properly? I can't take it to the store because the warranty has expired as any insurance it had... thanks again

There was some reading between the lines required for the mac instructions.

    You need to type
    Code:
    cd "/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/"
    sudo cp MobileDevice MobileDevice.backup
    Then type your password

    Then run
    Code:
    sudo bspatch MobileDevice MobileDevice.new MobileDevice_mac.patch
    sudo mv MobileDevice.new MobileDevice

The phone will restore OK but the phone (and maybe wifi/bluetooth) functions will not work. Error 23 can only be fixed via hardware on a 3G.

Ok thanks- so I've done the above - and after running the second command i think it created mobiledevice.new on folder A... I went ahead to restart the computer and tried DFU again but got the error again.... I think I still missed something... and sorry for this is that I'm doing each step as you mention and well lol if there is something implied that I should do I would prob miss it ... this is what my terminal posted afterwards:

    dave-macbook:A dave$ sudo bspatch MobileDevice MobileDevice.new MobileDevice_mac.patch
    dave-macbook:A dave$ sudo mv MobileDevice.new MobileDevice

Did you restart your machine after you applied the patch?

I just tested it and the only thing I could see that *might* be a problem.

    Open terminal and run
    cd "/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/"
    sudo chmod +x MobileDevice

If that does not work... Some things to try

Firstly, this only works with iTunes 9.0.2 be sure you have this version installed.

To be sure you have all the correct iTunes 9.0.2 components I would suggest you remove and reinstall iTunes.

Use this guide and do all the steps up to and including step 13
Removing iTunes for Mac OS X

    Also delete everything under /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

Then reinstall iTunes and be sure to restart after installing iTunes.

Try the patching process again.. I have tested the process personally and it worked for me.

I tried everything suggested... and still managed to get the same error.. I repeated the steps again and now after itunes extracts the file it skips the error part and goes to -"preparing to restore iphone" however once that is about to start Itunes closes... any thoughts?

Just rebooted and tried it and again Itunes quits unexpedtedly... should I post the report?

    Run md5 on MobileDevice

    Code:
    md5 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/MobileDevice
This should give the output as:
    MD5 (/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/MobileDevice) = cd68f16281db214980bda09a43904810
An original 9.0.2 MobileDevice has a md5 of: 95a32efccc601efa4d2ab26f3eedaec8 any other value and you have somehow patched this twice or incorrectly.

    Also..

Grab the latest log from ~/Library/Logs/iPhone Updater Logs/

post it to pastebin - collaborative debugging tool or New - Pastie and then put a link to that in this thread.

Ok So this is the log <http://pastie.org/792878> ... I have a bunch of them and they are all the same....

I was not sure what MD5 was.. I went ahead and downloaded <http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/networking_security/md5_eternalstormssoftware.html> from apple...

After running MD5 on the original 9.0.2 MobileDevice I did get 95a32efccc601efa4d2ab26f3eedaec8 ....

However, when I ran /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/MobileDevice ( which shows up as a plain text file unlike a Unix Executable File of the original) I get the following output: 9492be5c999f176f79ee123c85d7ca79... which isn't close to what you suggested :/ - I want the patched file to give me cd68f16281db214980bda09a43904810 right?

    **************
It looks like you were completely right Olethros... I went ahead and deleted itunes again and just tried the patch once... checked b4 and after for the MD5 value and finally got the one you posted... I ran itunes and it recovered Pretty much perfect lol but now after inserting my sim card - itunes says "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not seem to be supported" and the iphone displays a lock where the time normally is... What steps should I take now? It needs to be unlocked? or jailbroken as i've read around... I don't know how to do either... great if I can get referred to an article thanks again!

So, I've searched around and couldn't really find anything helpful... One thought was to use at&t sim though I use tmobile... also I read of jailbraking the phone to bypass this though I would need to press SHIFT + RESTORE (however, I can't click restore because my itunes is stuck on that 'not valid sim' message.. any suggestions? also as we just restored it a few hours ago i don't know what firmware it has - or what itunes 9.0.2 reset the iphone to.. thanks

    ******* UPDATE
So after doing plenty of research and mistrials etc.. I was able to fully restore the iphone and jailbreaking it then unlocking it everything is working accordingly I only now have 1 problem and that is that throughout this whole procedure my wake/sleep button appears to not be working/responding... I have held up throughout at various points in the process for 30secs/ 1min.. etc and I get no response... it doesn't shut down nor do i get a slider .. just simply no response... I also don't think i ever put my phone on dfu... just instead a regular restore because my screen was never off "dark" in the process.. instead it had the plug to itunes icon.... Also, the button is not physically broken.. so what else could it be? i know do not want to restore it to factory settings again bc I'll have to redownload all the cydya/istore apps etc... Any thoughts?? Thanks again!

    *****
OK... so somewhat frustrated i just really really jammed my nail into the wake/sleep button and it worked! I'm somewhat embarrassed that was the situation but grateful it wasn't anything technical... However, How and Why must I pressed extremely* hard for this to function...? Thanks for all the help!

    Dear, friend!
Please, share your experience about how to fully restore iphone after partial restore via iTunes (after step of "not appropriate SIM-card"). As far as you know, such solution is great evaluated by other folks.

    Many thanks in advance!
