Total noob questions!!!
Ok guys I know this will sound pretty noobish but hey I'm new in the scene... So I want to buy myself a Factory unlocked iPhone 3GS 16GB... so here are my questions:
1. I will jailbreak my iPhone... So I know that I need to use Blackra1n... what are the problems that occur?? I know that it hangs when you restart it and that you have to plug it in to your pc... any more??
2. I have read that these new iPhones 3GS give some problems... something about 40 and 42 week old models... can anyone explain this??? what kind of problems??? are those the problems when you jailbreak them???
3.What is it with the new baseband stuff?? is that the thing that triggers the issue when you jailbreak it???
That would be it... many thanks for all the answers...

The most recently manufactured 3GS iPhones have an updated bootrom chip that blocks the hole used to allow a jailbroken iPhone to restart without interruption.
Manufacturing week numbers give an indication, week40-42 is the cutoff period anything after that has a much higher chance of including the new bootrom.
iPhones with the new bootrom can still be jailbroken but it is described as a tethered jailbreak because you need to keep a computer handy in case the iPhone crashes and restarts or the battery goes flat or even if you install something from Cydia that requires a restart of the phone.
You can also use pwnagetool to install the jailbreak but the only user friendly tool that can kickstart the boot process for a tethered jailbreak is currently blackra1n.
Redsn0w 0.9 will also be released soon and will offer the ability to jailbreak and also kickstart boot a tethered jailbroken 3GS.
Once you have the iPhone in your hands, you can confirm if it has the new jailbreak or not without jailbreaking or violating your warrant via this procedure PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X

This is generally related to ultrasn0w unlock and you have a minimal chance of encountering this otherwise.

It means that if you are jailbreaking a newer iphone 3GS with new bootrom, after the jailbreak is completed (meaning blackra1n finishes), the phone will restart and will be stuck at a cable+cd screen. At this point you need to connect the iphone to computer and run blackra1n to kick start it again so I can boot up.
Everytime the phone is turned off or reboot, you would need to do this again.
Tethered jailbreak means the device must be attached to another source to complete the bootup process

ok I got that... so will there come something out that will do the jailbreak correctly.. I mean that you don't need to do that with the connection to a pc to boot it up

at the moment, no way to get around that.
I haven't heard of anything else.
