I had apparently added a profile for tethering, and now my network isn't recognized. I'm jb'd at 3.1, and used the download ipcc/terminal method to get to 5.5, and I removed the two hacker profiles for tethering.

Then I restarted, still no MMS.

    What am I doing wrong?

Also, how do I get ATT to be my network again?

    Thanks.

    I had this same problem...
It seems that at&t can now see that we are using tethering in firmware 3.1+. i ended up calling them to ask why my mms would work and they took me through some troubleshooting and then strait up said you have a carrier update that you shouldn't that allows you to use tethering, please remove it now! its not like i could say anything so i did and they activated my mms and i now can't get tethering to work at all........

p.s. we are happy to know that our tutorial for activating mms works fine for everyone with 3.0 and 3.0.1 fw except what happened to "joserpaq" we are unaware of how what happened, happened however we are happy that someone has helped you to fix that problem, if we find a way to get tethering to work on 3.1 we will defiantly post it on our blog(but nothing yet on that front)...

Well, at least for me it seems, I was wrong. I restarted another time, and voila, the camera icon has appeared. So actually, it looks like it works at 3.1 as well

Huh. Hadn't tried it actually. I never really used tethering because I couldn't get it to work, but the option did appear in my settings. However, it is now gone.

As far as MMS goes, it does seem to be working at the moment.

can someone help me with mms trouble too? I'm not on a att data plan but i do have unlimited text messaging though. Why isn't working? I have the latest data carrier as well as properly activated with att and jailbroken otb of 3.1 3GS.... do you really need data plan for mms to work?

According to AT&T, you need a data plan in order to access MMS (which doesn't make sense, as I believe they bill MMS's against your text messaging -- which is separate entirely from the data plan). Their (as close to official as I can get) stance is that since the Data Plan is *required* by them for any iPhone device, they will point fingers at the lack of it in any case that the device is not working as expected.

With that said, however, I do believe MMS uses a data connection to send the information, unlike SMS which piggy-backs on existing cell traffic. That may be why MMS won't work without a data plan...

I know my Motorola RAZR v3xx used to use data to send its MMS -- I was charged per kb as opposed to per message -- but that may have been the provider? A quick google search has illustrated that apparently the internet does not have a definitive answer for this.

You may want to call them and ask them to add a pay per use data plan, see if that allows you to send MMS, then immediately call them back and cancel it after testing. Sure, you'll pay for the data usage of that one MMS, but you'll have a definitive answer and google will be able to answer yet another question

    Good luck!
