Default stuck in recovery mode, DFU restore doesn't work?

UPDATE: I've fixed this problem by doing a restore on a friend's mac. the problem below occured using a Windows 7 laptop.

    Hi all,

Sorry if this is a dup. I've trying searching already but I couldn't find the exact same problem.

Anyway, I have a 3gs. Was running 4.0.1, didn't want to upgrade because I thought it would be worth more if it was unlocked (I'm planning on selling and switching to android eventually). So, here's the steps that led to this bad state.

    Jailbreakme
    installed ultrasnow
    uninstall ultrasnow in cydia
created custom image from 4.1 using pwnage tool w/ no hactivate
restored using this in windows, iphone in regular mode

itunes says cannot read - restore required.

So finally I gave up with preserving baseband, etc and tried to let itunes restore using its own thing - no go, still says 'cannot read iphone'. So then I booted into DFU mode, and tried again to let itunes restore using factory 4.1. Still no dice.

I have blobs from 4.0.1 saved using cydia as well as tinyumbrella.

    Tinyumbrella log
    Code:
    >> The Firmware Umbrella - v4.00.19 by semaphore
    >> Connect a device to continue...
    >> Caching shsh files... >> Found [1] shsh files to cache...
    >> Cached [1] shsh files >> Device Detected -
    Device: INVALID X.X.X (XXXX)
    Model: MB715LL/A
    Name: iPhone BbSNUM:ephJSv///39ITPAn
    Baseband: 05.14.02 - 6.4_M3S2
Please help me :-\. I'm not on warranty anymore...
