SOS - another try to unlock my iPhone 3GS
hi everyone,
I bought a iPhone 3GS 3 which someone had brought from US. This was more than 3 months ago.
After using the phone for hardly 1 hour and due to my stupid and idiotic mistake I plugged it to iTunes, got a message, and ended up upgrading the FIRMWARE from the original (3.1.2) to 3.1.3 and since then my iPhone is locked.
I have spent the last 3 months searching on the internet and have tried many solutions using snowbreeze, blackrain, and redsnow but no luck. I always end up getting a error at the end.
Based on what I have learned the solution maybe lies in downgrading the FIRMWARE to 3.1.2. Not sure but this is what i seem to have learned after spending 3 months of mad hours on the internet.
The current status of the phone is that on the screen I see the Iphone Logo and under that is the USB wire screen.
Can some guru, some expert, some angel, anyone, PLEASE pretty please help me.
People have been telling me funny things. Some say that just sell it for Rs. 15,000/- while some say that if I have a AT&T SIM then that might get help me unlock the phone ???
I will really be grateful if anyone can help put an end to my misery, torture, and frustration by helping me to unlock the phone. I don't want to sell it for such a big loss

You cannot unlock that iPhone at this time and you cannot revert the baseband to the previous version so what you have is a glorified iPod touch in the meantime (not even that if you cannot hactivate it). The good news is that the dev team et al have an unlock for the next version of firmware which is expect to be released around the end of June. Once the new firmware is out, you will be able to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone again so i would hold on to it until that time and not sell it as you will indeed take a financial hit. Keep watching here and Iclarified for updates on the next unlock solution :-)

As the poster above mentioned, unfortunately there is no good news for you at the moment.
1) You absolutely, positively cannot unlock this phone at this time, regardless of what anyone else online says. The baseband on this phone does not have an exploitable unlock that has been released to the public. An AT&T SIM will not help you. You cannot downgrade the baseband, FuzzyBand does not work with your model phone or your baseband. Those would be your only options. Your phone is currently carrier locked, and you cannot fix that at this time.
2) You *can* downgrade to 3.1.2, but it will not solve your problem. In order to downgrade to 3.1.2, you'd need your 3.1.2 SHSH on file. Downgrading would not help you though, there is no point. It would not downgrade the baseband, it would only downgrade the firmware. People did this previously because there was no jailbreak for 3.1.3. Now, you can jailbreak 3.1.3 with Spirit if you have an AT&T SIM. You still CANNOT unlock the 05.12.01 baseband.
3) It is correct that an exploit both for 3.1.3 and 4.0 has been found. It is also correct that an exploit for the baseband 05.12.01 has also been found. These jailbreaks and unlocks will not see the public scene until the next iteration of Apple hardware has been finalized and produced. Waiting until this equipment comes out guarantees that the equipment will be susceptible to the exploits they have currently found, and their desire is to have the highest allowable target audience for the exploit -- so they will not release it until the new hardware is released -- they do not want Apple to close this hole.
4) I'm sure you've heard this a lot and I'm not trying to be a jerk, but BE CAREFUL ABOUT UPGRADING IN THE FUTURE. Get your SHSH on file for 3.1.3 (you can do so without jailbreaking) so that you have protection in the future, and use this as a learning experience -- never upgrade your phone on a whim if you rely on an unlock for your device to function. All documentation for all jailbreaks and unlocks mention this -- it's extremely important, and now you know why.
Hate to say it, you're either going to need to stick it out for two months until the new hardware is released, or sell the phone to someone and buy another one and NOT upgrade it to 3.1.3.

I find that the site, iClarified - Apple News and Tutorials is very good for up to date news regarding unlocking, and much other iPhone/Apple related news. The front page of hackintosh also carries breaking news, so keep logging in for news every week. I imagine the release of a new unlock will be all over the internet :-)

Seems like I'll wait till end of June but is there any possibility that I can at least get it to work as a iPod touch?
At this point, based on the state your phone is in, I do not believe so. The latest model 3GS with the latest bootroms cannot be hacktivated once they are on 3.1.3. This is why the Spirit jailbreak very clearly reminds users that they must have a legitimate AT&T SIM. Your only real choice to get the phone activated at this point is going to be inserting an AT&T SIM if you have one available. If not, only about a month and a half to go before the new phone is released and new jailbreak tools and unlocks hit the scene...
