restoring deleted text messages
Now I know this is kina ****ed up but .... , I have a girlfriend who has a iphone 3gs with i4 update
last few weeks she has been acting suspect - im about to move in with her
but before I let her I wanna know what is going on .
I have access to her phone at breif periods ie when she sleeps or leaves it for 5 mins .
Im prepared to pay someone if needed to help me with this .
What would the best way to get her deleted text messages be
I was thinking back up her phone to my computer and then use the files to find the deleted text messages
I saw this program
http://riactant.wordpress.com/2009/0...y-for-windows/ and followed all steps on their to get it to work but it wont .
Either that or back up the files to my computer and restore them to a blank iphone I have any help will be appreciated / and or rewarded
Also a program where I can remove the pass code to her phone wold also help
Thanks
thanks

Unfortunately, it's not really as simple as you'd expect without forensic software. The SMS history and call history are stored in SQLite databases and when things are deleted, rows are dropped. It's not like there's a file you can undelete or something -- this would be stepping back in write history on the disk. While the SQLite database is (as I understand it) journaled, I do not believe you can use the journal to replay the events (e.g., use the log file to un-do the deletion).
I can't really say I condone the actions you're taking but ultimately, since they're not illegal that I'm aware of, I can't complain about you asking, so, here's what I would do:
Grab an SQLite database viewer online (there are several) and open the SMS.db that you find in /var/mobile/Library/SMS
From there you'll be able to see the copy of the database -- past that, I don't really know what to tell you. If they're purged from this database, short of using forensic tools to retrieve previous versions of the .DB file, you may be out of luck...
The preceding forum post has been brought to you by the letter "N" and the number 42.

You'll have more success using strings or a basic hex editor or similar on the file, see
SQLite Frequently Asked Questions for the official line on this.
Agree with n1ckn4m3, your actions are not ethical but not technically illegal. Why not just be honest and direct with her? Any relationship not founded on honesty and trust isn't going to last.
