Default restore using saurik server failing

I backed up my codes on Sauriks server and previously restored a couple of times to 3.1.2 with no problems, today I reset my network settings and got stuck in endless boot loop, cant use irecovery since i am on windows 7 (tried it still the program cant detect the iphone just the usb). so I decided to restore, I changed my host file to redirect but still i get the itunes message your device is not elegible .... is there something wrong with the Sauriks server or am i doing something wrong? or did something change ?
    Thanks

What ip address are you using for saurik's server?

That is the correct IP. Do you have anything else in your hosts file that refers to gs.apple.com?

Have you tried the firmware umbrella? See Hack that Phone - iPhone 3G S: Restoring "forbidden" firmware

No and the host is fine since when i ping gs.apple.com i get a response from the correct ip. but i dont know whats wrong ... my guess currently is that the server or the database is down.
as for unberrella it required the device to be functioning but mine isnt its in the apple logo infinite loop boot sequence so i dont know how to get the iccd from it.

gs.apple.com has to be disabled by either putting a hash in front of it or deleting it when you put in sauricks server details if memory serves me right.

Okay infinite apple logo boot sequence - the thread for that is http://www.hackint0sh.org/f220/124913.htm

I would recommend you try that first.

To clarify some of your misunderstandings in the remainder of the post:
You don't need ICCID (which comes from the SIM card) you need ECID (this is manufactured into the main chip that runs the iPhone.

The ECID can be obtained by putting the iPhone into either Recovery or DFU mode and checking a value reported via USB.

There are various guides to grab the ECID - the link I gave you before showed how to do this on a Mac. On windows microsoft hides the data a bit more but it is still relatively easy to find.

See PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X which outlines the windows method.

DFU mode is hardware based and as such as long as the iPhone's hardware is working okay you can enter DFU mode even if the OS is completely screwed. See http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/54082.htm

Umbrella runs on your Mac/Windows machine not on your iPhone. All you need is the ECID from your iPhone. So umbrella does not require the iPhone to have a working operating system.

You need to have no hash in front of the gs.apple.com line if you want to restore with iTunes and use the Cydia cache.
If you want to use TinyTSS, then you need to put in a different IP 127.0.0.1
The only time you need to put a hash in front of that line is if you want to talk directly to the real gs.apple.com (via iTunes or Umbrella)

Thanks for the feedback, Actually later on that day I used my netbook which had an older itunes and it worked perfectly, not sure now if the issue was with itunes, or with the internet (i also later found out that it seems a major cable was damaged that morning and it actually took a few days for it to be repaired). anyway all up and running now
