Default resetting failed phone keeps rebooting

I just bought a new 3gs that was at 3.12 and the baseband at 4.26 (I think). It was unlocked and working with T-mobile. However, the seller did not remove any of their data so, stupid me decided to reset the phone deleting all data. Now the phone just keeps showing me the apple and the status circle and then reboots and shows me the same thing again. At the time, I did not think this was a big deal because I could just restore it to 3.12 or lower. But I come to find out that that is not an option any more because apple is no longer signing. I tried editing my host file hoping that the prior owner backed up (shsh file) but I was still unsuccessful. Do I have any options other than restoring it to 3.13? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. I am dying without my iphone. Thanks so much, Mike

Without a ecid/shsh, you cannot restore to stock firmware.
However, one last hope for you. Is your iphone 3GS an older model (production week is < 40 ) ?. Does your iphone required connecting to the computer for it to boot up completely (tethered jailbreak) ?.

If production week is less then 40 or if it is NOT a tethered-jailbreak phone, you can restore a custom firmware 3.1.2 created by pwnagetool.

Before you do anything, please try to understand what I am telling you above. You must be sure. This is your last hope to revive that phone.
Post question if you are not sure.

    dtube,
thanks so much for the response. How can I tell the production week? Is there a way to get to the serial number, cause the phone is locked up? Or can I just try a custom firmware 3.1.2 created by pwnagetool. If so, is this something I can make with a pc. I do not have access to a mac. Or would you be able to PM me something special? Thank you so much for your help, Mike

What is the first 5 characters of the serial number. The serial number should be on the box of the iphone.
The 3rd digit represents the year.
The 4th & 5th digit represents the week of production.

Normally the 3rd, 4th and 5th number you want to see is 940 (2009 week 40)
    or less.
