So, when I ask for the name of the ispw file you are not going to tell us?

Sorry, first post ever. iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw Other data: iPhone 3G 8GB, using OSX 10.5.7 on an Aluminum MacBook. I tried downloading both with FireFox as well as Safari, made no difference. redsn0w 0.8 quits before displaying "Processing ISPW" or "ISPW successfully identified"

Dit you download RedSn0w from iphonedev - TPB ?
If so, try RedSn0w 0.72 instead.

So I tried RedSn0w 0.72 and got the same result it just quit when I browsed for the ISPW. Then I downloaded redsn0w 0.8 for windows and ran it in Crossover and received a bit more data. It didn't quit and gave me the following message: "Please select the corresponding IPSW for your CURRENT firmware." "Unable to recognize specified IPSW."
My current MODEM firmware is: 04.26.08 and my IPSW is: 3.0.1 (7A400)
I thought that redsn0w 0.8 could accept this?!

No, you need to run the 3.0 ipsw not the 3.01 ipsw then all will be fine

OK. Excuse my newbie obtuseness, but I thought that if I selected the 3.0 ispw when I browsed with redsn0w it didn't matter if my phone already had 3.0.1. Do I need to downgrade to 3.0? I'm not sure what you mean by "run 3.0 ipsw"

No, that's what I meant. You have 3.01 on your phone but need to use the 3.0 ipsw to JB it.

first post, and just a quick one...
using the ipsw 3.0 for jailbreaking 3.0.1
does that mean the sms exploit fix isn't in effect after the jailbreak?
thanks,

No you will still have 3.0.1 on the phone. The reason this works is because the files in the 3.0.1 update that Redsn0w would have to update/hack have not changed. 3.0.1 was a very minor update.
The only reason you need to point to the 3.0.0 ipsw is because Redsn0w knows nothing about it. I forgot where I read this I am sure its on the Dev-Teams page but they effectivly said they could update Redsn0w to accept the 3.0.1 ipsw but see no need to.

My Os is gone
HELP PLEASE... i tried to jailbreak & unlock my white 16gb iphone 3gs 3.0 using redsn0w 0.8.. after running redsn0w, my OS was gone.. it only shows the cydia & icy icons, the usual menu was gone.. i can't restore it thru itunes, it says "this device isn't eligible for the requested build". and i don't want to upgrade to 3.1.
how can i bring back my precious fone back to life.. is there a way to restore my OS without itunes. i'm only using this for 2 days. can't bring it back to the store coz this unit came from the US..
