New 3GS - What a bummer

My 3GS took a dump the other day, so I got it replaced with a new one @ the Apple store yesterday. Yay!
Old one was stuck on a spinning wheel of death, no boot, power button stopped working, and wouldn't restore.

It's come to my attention that since it's a 2011 week 49 model, that I'm stuck on 5.16.05 baseband, and it'll brick if I try to update to 6.15bb.

So If I read everything correct this new phone is useless to me, unless I want to switch to AT&T?
Guess I'll have to sell it, and buy an older one.

You can still use a Gevey SIM on this 3GS, from what I understand -- but you're correct that you will be unable to upgrade to the 06.15 baseband as it will brick your phone's baseband chip.
