well, work are forcing me to have a 3GS. downer.
it will be on an orange contract.
anyone seen any issues etc with orange yet as opposed to O2?
also I have a 2G phone now running 2.2 and it's syncd to a windows install.
when I get the new phone what's the steps I need to take to sync all data and apps tithe new phone without loosing anything?

As long as the 2G is not jailbroken, you can sync a backup of the 2G with iTunes to your PC, then connect the 3GS and restore the 2G backup onto it.
You may have some problems because the 2G iPhone is running 2.2, some of the databases (SMS, call history etc) need to be updated for OS 3.0, the restore from backup process should take care of this.
If you are jailbroken on the 2G iPhone you need to be more careful. It will work to restore from an iTunes backup onto the 3GS but you may experience instability, weird behaviour and quite likely poor battery life. This is because Apple does not test the restore from backup function where the backup was taken of a jailbroken iPhone.
