Having trouble with 3GS stuck in recovery loop. Gives error 29 while trying to restore. This is how phone was when I got it, so do not know what software phone was on. I'm using windows 7, Itunes 10.5.3.3. Recovery log iphone 3gs - Pastebin.com Any help would be much appreciated. Would like to know what to look for in the log. Thanks, Greg
Update: Used recovery fix in redsn0w and got to activation screen. Ran tiny umbrella to save available shsh. Now phone will stay on for a couple minutes and then restarts. restarts fine, but keeps doing this. Any ideas? Thanks
Check the console log to see if you can determine the reboot cause. The restore log doesn't really provide any useful information as to why it's rebooting on you randomly. You can access the console log by using the iPhone Enterprise Configuration utility (freely available from Apple's website).
The only thing I see coming up in console log after phone boots is this: iPhone CLTM[28] <Error>: CLTM: could not find Temperature in IOPMPowerSource This comes up every 20 seconds or so until phone shuts off. What does this mean?
The iPhone has a temperature sensor that will shut the phone off if it believes it gets too hot -- I think that could be related -- if the temperature is not being reported, it may shutdown because it believes it's too hot even though it's not.
I don't believe you can replace just the temperature sensor, I'm seeing conflicting reports that it either is or is not included in the battery.... But searching for replacement temperature sensors has netted a lot of people with the same issue as you -- though in some cases they have to make a phone call to trigger the reboot.
The temp sensor must be in the battery. I swapped motherboards with another phone and the known good motherboard in the phone in question would give same type temp errors, while motherboard in question installed in known good phone gives no temp errors AND will restore without any errors. So battery must be cause of both issues. Thanks for the info on the configuration utility. That is a handy little tool.
