Also this is now an error when you have the new iPhone 3Gs when installing the iPad baseband.

Happens because of the switch in chips Apple done. They have Toshiba chips now which dont work with the ipad baseband

Correct, I believe any iPhone 3G built after week 35 of 2011 has a new baseband chip that will brick if you flash 06.15.00 to it.
The preceding forum post has been brought to you by the letter "N" and the number 42.

Default iPhone4: No WIFI, No IMEI, No Bluetooth & No Modem firmware

I was able to fix eventually. It was definitely a process... that's for sure.

    I did have a different error code (1013,1014,1015). AT&T model IPhone 3g 4.2.1 baseband 5.15

    irecovery - failed
    fix recovery - failed
    tiny umbrella - failed
    greenpoison - failed

Restore to 4.1, but went into another recovery loop.

    irecovery - failed
    fix recovery - failed
tiny umbrella - success kicking out of recovery mode.

At that point is when I received the message "Restore is Needed......Iphone cannot make calls", or something like that.
Tiny umbrella wouldn't show the model number, imei, etc...

I then jailbroke it using the trusty redsnow 0.9.6b06, and left the baseband alone. It rebooted after, and that's when I noticed that the imei, baseband, etc.. were missing. Wifi greyed out, Bluetooth not available....

So after researching this, I learned that there were several possible fixes. What Olethros is saying IS true, perhaps to your specific situation/error code. However, NOT every instance of having an iphone where the imei, baseband, etc.. were missing. Wifi greyed out, Bluetooth not available, etc... is a hardware issue, or not able to be fixed, because I eventually fixed it.

I decided to try to install the iPad baseband, and that's what gave me wifi, bluetooth, and the rest all back. What was missing was the ability to make calls/get service. At first it was always "searching".

When connected it to the computer and opened itunes, itunes said it "couldn't read" the iphone, and that it needed to be restored.

I decided to restore/update it to 4.2.1, and again, it went into a recovery loop. And again...

    irecovery - failed
    fix recovery - failed
    tiny umbrella - failed
    greenpoison - failed

What worked at getting out of recovery was entering (via redsnow 0.9.6b6) PWND DFU mode, and restoring to a custom jailbroken and activated firmware. Make sure host file is not pointing to cydia.

Still, no Cell signal though with AT&T sim. I updated Cydia, then installed Ultrasnow. At that point I got a signal... & still had wifi... bluetooth.. imei.. etc...

So it was the baseband re-installation, then unlocking that for the most part worked the magic. I do know for a fact the iphone was AT&T branded too, which confuses me why it wouldn't work with an AT&T sim before unlocking. Oh well...

I am sure this won't work for everyone with similar symptoms.
But I hope this helps someone.
    Dear all,

    A/ My iPhone 4 capacity:
    - Original carrier: GSM/AT&T
    - Current carrier: GSM/HELLO (Cambodian carrier with Gevey Ultra Sim)
    - iOS: 4.3.3
    - Modem Firmware: 4.10.01

    B/ Problem Description:
About few days ago, when my iPhone4 was recharging battery, I got a message "You can't make or receive call. Please restore with iTunes bla bla...".
    -------------
    Start:F1:
    -------------
Then i check my device status under General -> About, i found:
    - WIFI is grayed out
    - No IMEI
    - Bluetooth is grayed out
    - Modem firmware is blank
In the top right (where to display service), it display "Searching".
Block sim tray temperature is hotter than usual!
    --------------
    End: F1:
    --------------

C/ My testing without good result:
    - I restart my iPhone about 20 times and try, I get the result in the same loop as "F1"
    --------------
    End: F2:
    --------------
    - I decided to restore my iPhone with iTunes 10.5.2 with iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw. It get struck their for 3 minutes then i got error message "bla bla... Unexpected error (-1)" while the process of restoring is taking place on my device about 75%. So I can't turn on my iPhone
    - Then i run redsn0w_win_0.9.10b1 to Fix Recovery until successful to boot up my device. I got the start up setup screen as below:
    * The service block is keeping "Searching"
    + 1st: Select Language -> next
    + 2nd: Select Region -> next
+ 3rd: Connect to Itunes screen (strange!!!)
so i follow the instruction by connecting to the iTunes and i see the iTunes is struck for 5 to 7minutes and display "No SIM Card...". I still can't get into the home screen!!!
    --------------
    End: F2:
    --------------

This situation, i try the "F2" for several times, but i get the same result in loop.
I waste too much time to fix by my own self .

I assume that my device is broken with any hardware related to/around SIM Tray, WiFi.
Then I call to the local repair shop in my country "Cambodia". He concludes that my device is broken because i use the non original power adapter. But in fact i use all original and license adapter from authorized apple company in my country. Then he suggests me to take the device to his shop for hardware replacement. He estimates to charge me USD180 which is an expensive amount.

    D/ My Questions:
1 - Have you ever experience with this problem?
2 - What is your conclusion to the problem, hardware or software? please clarify...
3 - Is there any solution to fix this problem?
Hopefully, as I am an IT guy, I am looking forward to your solution. My device can be a good sample for applying any suitable solution.

I think the guy is lying to you. Short of blowing the entire logic board up (which you haven't done), a non-spec power adapter can really only break your dock connector (extremely rare) or your battery (much more common). Replacing the dock connector is like $30-40 USD and replacing the battery is like $20-30USD, so neither of them make up a $180 fix, imo.

Try and do a stock restore of iOS 5.0.1 again to the device and if it fails, follow the instructions in the 'restore problems' portion of my sig, and post the log to pastebin for me to review. I can hopefully help identify what has failed at least so I can give you an idea as to what you'd need to replace to make it work.

Hello, my story is prety the same. Ive tried to restore my iphone with many different ways. What i ended up with is:

Error 23 in iTunes when trying to restore.
Possible to restore only with redsnow.
Disabled/ greyed out wifi, BT etc.
    Broken Battery.
Impossible to connect to iTunes due to unknown iphone error.

But here is mirracle! After recieving new battery and installing it, i finally got wifi address and BT. I havent tried to connect to itunes after that, but tried to restart the phone. And guess what? Its greyd out again.

    I havent updated baseband.
    Using Redsnow 0.9.10 b4, and ios 5.0.1.

Same thing is happening to me.
Phone froze then restarted saying unable to make or receive calls
    No IMEI NO ICCID

Only way to restore was with a jailbroken 4.1 (that i had SHSH for) and no baseband update. Otherwise it would fail.
phone was on IOS 4.01 BB 5.13 (i think or 5.12?) unlocked using ultrasn0w.

No IMEI No ICCID means your baseband is fried. If re-flashing it doesn't fix it, then you need to replace the baseband chip itself or the entire logic board.
