Phone: 3GS that was unfortunately upgraded to apple stock 4.1. I have the SHSH keys for 4.0, 4.0.2 and now 4.1 saved nicely away. This is an old boot ROM 3GS. Modem firmware is 5.14.02

I want to use this as my kids phone now that I have a iphone 4. I want to turn off data and not have an ATT data plan for him using SBSettings to turn off 3G and EDGE. (I have done this with another phone for my other son) he will use his ATT phone SIM and use the iphone as a phone with no data when on cellular but can use it on WiFi in the house.

Anyway, used PWNAGE to build a custom firmware bundle last night (Mac version) and installed it on the phone, everything went well. Built firmware with the phone activated since his SIM doesn't have a data plan.

When I put the SIM in, I get "no service"


Ideas?

should I build the custom bundle as "not activated" and use the SIM from my iphone4 (with an adapter, I have a couple of them) to activate then switch the SIM? Would that be better?

Yes.. you should legitimately activate it if you want to use it with AT&T and it is locked to AT&T.

So make another custom IPSW and untick "activation" in expert mode. Then use pretty much any AT&T sim with iTunes to activate.
