New to the forum
Was wondering why a thread got closed..
Guy was simply asking how to updgrade to 4.0.1 instead of 4.0.2.
Why not just tell him how to download the 4.0.1 os and hold shift when hitting the restore button in iTunes. You will have to most likely add a registry source (plenty of YouTube videos to show you how). I mean so many people on all forums always complain about search. But how long would that paragraph really take for me to type? Just my 2 cents I'm new on this forum and know my place.
Hope to not only use this forum, but also help it.

Are you referring to adjusting TcpWindowSize ? I can't think of any other registry tweaks related to restore/sync.
Adjusting TcpWindowSize will NOT allow restore of 4.0.1 IPSW, the only way you can do this is with a valid SHSH, which Apple no longer issues for 4.0.1
To utilise a cached SHSH (which you need to have obtained before Apple stopped signing SHSH you need to modify the hosts file (a file, not the registry) to redirect iTunes network communications to either at TinyUmbrella or Cydia instead.
The standard policy here where posts are duplicated is to either answer and close them or try and merge them with an existing thread.

Sorry I meant hosts file c://windows/system32/drivers/etc/ and the file named hosts (just hosts not the other one). Add apples host (74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com)
Then go into your iPod/iPhone tab in iTunes hold shift when you click restore. Select your previously downloaded Ipsw and restore/upgrade/downgrade your device.
Timed it. It took me a total of 2 mins and 47 seconds because I had to look up the host name.

This ONLY works if you had already used the "make my life easier" option in Cydia before Apple stopped signing 4.0.1 - there are a lot of people who have not done this or do not understand that it is usually too late to capture their SHSH when they experience a problem. (Erase all content and settings without understanding the implications or installation of something from Cydia that was not compatible with iOS 4.x for example)

I won't delete it, hope you now understand that many people don't fully read a thread or post before they ask the same questions again in a new thread.
