i just bought a new iphone 3gs, im not sure whats the correct firmware coz when i connect to itunes it says the sim card is incorrect.. where should i start first.. please help

Serial number suggests it is new bootrom. However serial number is only a guide. True test is to find your bootrom version via DFU

Once you know if you have old or new bootrom, use redsn0w 0.9.2 to jailbreak.

Make sure to answer correctly at step 6 based on what you find out in DFU mode.

Then you need to unlock with blacksn0w iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G, 3GS Using BlackSn0w

You have not entered DFU mode.. You are in recovery mode. This mode does not display the bootrom version. Only DFU mode does this.

If you have the new bootrom you answer yes to "do you have a late model 3GS" when jailbreaking with redsn0w. I said this already.

If you are referring to the redsn0w tutorial, you should skip step two. I thought this would be obvious. Also I have mentioned this already many times on this forum.
