Default Need to change 3gs Imei

hey, kinda new to the iphone scene

so anyway, i brought an iphone 3gs off a friend of a friend, and it turns out that its probably blocked, (after sim card inserted message "waiting for activation" comes up and doesnt dissapear unless i press dismiss, and when i do there is no signal

its running on 3.1.3 and 05.12.01 baseband

i heard the only way i can get it to work is by changing the IMEI, could someone tell me how to do this please?

    much appreciated

IMEI changing is illegal in most countries and as such, that practice is not supported on the hackint0sh forums.

The official answer is to return the phone to the person you purchased from for a refund as the device is either reported lost or stolen.

    1. Waiting for activation - does not really mean that the IMEI is blocked. There can be a few reasons for this. You may need to speak to your carrier to complete the activation.
    2. Speaking to your carrier will also help confirm if your iPhone is really IMEI blacklisted.
    3. IMEI change is not possible on most iPhone models due to the security Apple has built into the baseband part of the iPhone.
    4. IMEI change is illegal in most countries. As a result none of the hackers who make unlocks are willing to develop tools to change the IMEI. Discussion of illegal activites is not allowed here on this forum

There is no problem with discussing activation problems here. Just not okay to discuss changing the IMEI (if it were even possible, which it is not)
