[Looking for help]Precedure to break iPhone contract with AT&T
Greetings, everyone.
I live in India and would like to buy an iPhone. But it's very costly (36,000 INR ~US$ 800, which I can't afford at this moment) in US - as all of you know, it's available for $299 in US with AT&T contract. So I would like to buy this in US and unlock it and use it in India. I've many friends in US who can buy one and send it to me.
But I would like to know the procedures to break the contract with AT&T. Can someone clearly explain it, please?
Thank you.

Seriously, this is a bad idea - especially right now.
AT&T don't offer official unlocks - even if you break your contract/pay it off.
Also iPhones currently on sale can't be unofficially unlocked (you might get lucky and find an old stock)
The REAL price of an iPhone 3GS is around US$900 - this gets you a factory unlocked iPhone.
Also the next gen iPhone will be released within 1 and a half months. After that time the 3GS will get cheaper (if they keep on selling it at all)
It's not a good time to buy an iPhone and the best place to get an iPhone is not the USA - buy from Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia etc where they offer factory unlocked iPhones at reasonable prices.

I just meant breaking contract with AT&T and getting it unlocked by myself.
And yeah, you're right. F/w 4.0 can't be unlocked at this moment, hna?
Yeah, it's around US$ 800 in my country (through Vodafone and AirTel - both are best service providers). But it's too costly to my current budget.
Buying it from Austraalia and Hong Kong costlier than buying one in India. But price in Singapore with singtel seems cool.
Anyways, I'll wait for iPhone 4G.
Thank you for the response..

FW 3.1.3 can't be unlocked. FW 4.0 is just a beta - there are never unlocks released for beta OS.
