I have been out of the JB loop since 2.0 and have 1G on 2.0 and a sealed, OTB 3GS on 3.0.0.

My computer is OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) with Itunes 8.0.2

I know very small amount about ECID from skimming:
Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik)

I need to
1) JB my 3GS
2) unlock my 3Gs
3) get my ECID or whatever info I need to keep downgrading to 3.0 an option in the future
4) upgrade using pwnage unique .ipsw to the newest reversible firmware keeping my baseband the same.

How am I doing so far? If I said a wrong hacker vocab word, please let me know.

Questions:
1) Can I run pwnage tool 3.1.4 on OS 10.4.11 Tiger? or do I need leopard
2) What baseband is my phone currently at if it is OTB 3.0.0?
3) What info can I still get from my phone before I upgrade the firmware. With this umbrella thingy I've read about on hackint0sh, can I access my ECID # on 3.0.0?
4) does the ECID number change when you upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1?
5) are there other numbers I need to get besides ECID?

Thank you for your help. I've been delaying on hacking stuff until I understand it since I know many steps are not as reversible with 3gs as they were with 1gen.

1. Pwnagetool 3.1.4 has been reported to run fine on 10.4.11 make sure you have iTunes 8.2 or higher installed and that you copy PwnageTool out of the mounted disk image before running it.
2. Your baseband firmware is 04.26.08, I do not recommend upgrading it to the baseband included in 3.1 and 3.1.2, this means always restoring using pwnagetool created ipsw.
3. Yes you can access your ECID on 3.0.0 but not your ECID SHSH
4. your ECID never changes, your ECID SHSH is unique for your iPhone and each OS release from apple. You can only get ECID SHSH for 3.1.2 now. You should get this asap because Apple has stopped issuing these for earlier OS firmwares. You do not need to jailbreak (or even be running a specific OS version) to get your ECID or ECID SHSH
5. No there are no other numbers you need besides your ECID

There is no reversible firmware for you. Your next restore (whether it is now or in 6 months time) can only be to 3.1.2 - as long as you have captured your ECID SHSH for 3.1.2 before apple stops signing them.

You can stay on 3.0 until your iPhone crashes and requires a restore. Or you can restore to 3.1.2. The choice is up to you.

it appears that hacktivated phones can now get PUSH with that guide. It appears over my head and probably not worth it, but it states I need a clean phone to make it work. Do I need to figure it out before I start trying to get my ECID SHSH?

I want to get my ECID SHS since that seems like the only time limiting factor...

Ok, so I just started my initial 3 hour Iphone charge - literally fresh out of the box and plugged it in to the wall. [[side note:I hear I'm supposed to do a full discharge and then 5 hours with the phone off and then recharge fully (might delay on that for now)]].

Are you telling me that before I do anything, I'm able to get the ECID SHSH? just run that umbrella thing? boy there is a lot to learn since the days of 1G jb ul...

If so, cool, that is the first thing I will do.

now to figure out how if I need to do anything special to get PUSH working before I jailbreak and hacktivate...

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you recommend moving to the new baseband? Now that it has been unlocked, what benefit is there for staying on 04.26.08? I was under the impression that the unlock was the only reason to stay on the lower baseband.

Because ultrasn0w and 04.26.08 have been out for longer, ultrasn0w has had quite a few updates since it's original release to fix incompatibilities and bugs.

Also, because pwnagetool encourages better jailbreaking habits (not restoring to official ipsw, disabling baseband update by default) for those new to jailbreaking.
