I am recently planning to buy an iPhone 3G S but I am not sure about the service costs. From what I hear from friends, they say i only costs $30 a month but when I check online at the at&t site, it says its like $90 a month. So i a m very confused about that..... Does anyone know what the actual cost ends up to be monthly?

also, does the iPhone come with the at&t sim card, like in the iPhone box?

This really is not the right place for asking such questions. The answer is minimum $70 a month ($30 mandatory data plan, $39.95 - cheapest voice plan, no text messaging plan)

Yes the AT&T sim card comes with the phone

We don't mind, it's just a bit ironic as much of this site is about avoiding AT&T's very high prices by unlocking the phone and moving to another carrier (usually TMobile in the USA)

I don't think you can get AT&T iPhone plan without the text ($5 for 200 text msgs minimum), so it should be $35 for data+text and $40 for voice.

bobjones323, my advice to you is buy unlocked/unlockable iPhone 3GS from Ebay or CL and go with T-Mobile. They have $79.99 unlimited talk+data+text, no contract required. The setback is that you can only use EDGE for data, no 3G.
T-Mo is the way to go if you talk/text a lot. You can even disconnect your landline if you like...

Be very careful about buying iPhones from eBay or Craigslist. Right now a lot of people are trying to offload their (oh I accidentally upgraded to 3.1.3 and now I can't unlock) iPhones to unsuspecting purchasers.

You need to source an iPhone from outside the US if you want an officially unlocked iPhone. Hong Kong and Australia are both OK price wise for this.

I agree with you. I personally sold about 30 3GS' on CL last month. They were all untouched 3.1.2's. Every customer asked this exact same question about the FW version.

Thats probably what I will do but i was wondering, if u use tmobile, the Phone application and the SMS will work, but there wont be any data plan that covers internet coverage on the go, right?

You obviously didn't read my post (#6).

The setback is that you can only use EDGE for data, no 3G.

I am currently using EDGE with my iPhone 3GS on T-Mo. 3G won't work due to hardware incompatibility.
