Default iphone 3GS - Used redsn0w and wrong firmware - wouldn't boot up - FIX

Maybe this will help any other moron like me that tried to jailbreak with the wrong firmware on their 3GS. I couldn't find any help with this which is why I almost let Apple stick 3.1 on there so figured I would post it just in case it helps anyone.

Well I jailbroke my ipod touch 2g first to make sure I knew how to do it and watched some videos. Everything went fine so went to do my iphone 3GS on 3.0.1.

Well I downloaded the iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore instead of iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore and redsn0w stalled at waiting for reboot. iphone wouldn't boot up and the screen stayed black. Of course iTunes would not let me restore 3.0.1 on my 3GS so my only choice was to let it update me to 3.1.

I figured I might as well salvage my phone and let it update to get my phone back to working at least and wait for new jailbreak for 3.1. iTunes downloaded the 3.1 update and started the restore, I noticed it reboot my phone and the Apple logo came up so I quickly killed iTunes. Now I had a screen that was semi lite up but the phone was kind of on so I ran redsn0w. It went through saying it was uploading file but I did not have the screen with the HD image but it wehnt through saying it was uploading files then said it finished. Glitter of hope, of course it didn't actually finish but now I had the screen with the cable and iTunes logo. I couldn't power down the phone like redsn0w says to do but I went ahead and ran redsn0w again anyways. redsn0w started uploading right away when I clicked next after verifying the firmware and everything went as normal after that. Went through all the normal screens and jailbroke it. Everything is working.

So basically I used iTunes to start the restore to get my phone out of black screen and into DFU mode so redsn0w could run.

    Exclamation Exact same (crappy) situation

    Hello!

hi, the mistakes that you made; and the symptoms that you have had with your Iphone 3gs; I've done / made almost the exact same.
I've been tearing my hair out on this and have spent many many hours on it aswell.

What ended up happening with your Iphone 3gs? ... More specifically; Did you fix it? .. and if so, what was your solution?

    Thanks a ton,

    Dave "aka: ThunderMoose"
